Why Aren't We Pregnant Yet? **
There are many reasons why a couple might not get pregnant right away.
It's possible that the couple isn't having sex on the right days. Pregnancy is possible any time you have sex. But there are days when women are more or less fertile. If you're having sex on your less fertile days, pregnancy is possible but less likely. If you are trying to get pregnant, you want to be having sex before and during ovulation. Ovulation occurs around day 14 of the typical 28 day cycle and is accompanied by discharge that looks very much like egg whites (clear and stringy).
Sometimes a baby starts to form improperly very early on, and the baby dies. It's no one's fault, just Mother Nature's way of decreasing the chance that we'll have a really unhealthy baby. Sometimes it happens so early on that the miscarriage seems like a normal period and the woman never even realizes that she was pregnant. So that means a lot of women who think they're trying with no success at all might have actually gotten pregnant at some point in the past.
There are various medical issues that can interfere with conception (even some of the more common STDs) or make pregnancy unsafe for a woman. So it's recommended that women discuss pregnancy with an ob-gyn
before they even start trying. The ob-gyn can make sure you're free of STDs or other infections, make sure you're healthy enough to get pregnant, and give you lots of valuable information. You should also discuss any medications you are taking (even over the counter medications) with the ob-gyn since some of them are not safe for unborn babies.
It's also possible that one or both people are unable to have children. If you have been actively trying (actively trying means you have not been using any form of birth control and you have been having sex every month before and during ovulation) for one year or more without success and your ob-gyn has no answers for you, then you can ask your ob-gyn about seeing a fertility specialist.
So if you are trying to get pregnant track your cycle, make sure you are seeing an ob-gyn, eat healthy foods, avoid alcohol and tobacco, take your prenatal vitamins, do your research, and be patient!
