So this guy and girl were dating. They broke up. The guy decided to get back at the girl by pretending to be her and posting an ad on craisglist. The ad had personal information and photos. It said she had an extreme rape fantasy and wanted someone to come over and "rape" her. So someone did. Now the "rapist" is facing charges and so is the ex-boyfriend.
I hate rape. I think it's horrifying. And I feel so bad for that woman. But I have to say I don't think the "rapist" should be charged in this case. A lot of people have rape fantasies. They're not uncommon, unheard of, or illegal. It sounds like this guy had a rape fantasy (which is not the same as actual rape since both people are willing), thought he found a willing partner who had a rape fantasy too, and therefore acted on it. It was an extremely unfortunate misunderstanding that he probably feels pretty awful about.
The only one who should be charged in my opinion is the ex-boyfriend. Because he's the one who set it up. He's the one who knew she didn't have a rape fantasy. He's the one who lied in an attempt to actually get a woman raped. I'd say lock that guy up and throw away the key because he's the one who's clearly dangerous and disturbed. http://www.nytimes.com/aponline/2010/02/06/us/AP-US-Internet-Assault.html?_r=3 |
